I haven't written these newsletters in a couple of Sundays now. I work in healthcare and felt burnt toast! I took time for myself to recharge and even went to New York.

This week's newsletter was created after getting ads, Twitter posts, and people talking about sea moss. I wanted to delve beyond the superficial and see if the hype was worth it.

Action to water your health

Sea Moss. That slippery, slimy fingerlike projectile ocean "thingy" is now branded as a "superfood".

Sold in many forms including:

  • Gummies

  • Powder

  • Pills

  • Dehydrated

  • Gel

ABC’s “Shark Tank,” featured a CEO named Alexiou Gibson, who runs a start-up named The Transformation Factory. Guess what they sell? yep, edible sea moss gel. He got a $600,000 deal for his product.

Sea moss is now a multi-million dollar business $$$$ But are people getting ripped off?

So is sea moss a new thing?

No, people have been using sea moss before it was mainstream.

Examples include,

• A gelatin substitute used in Filipino cooking and vegan desserts.

• Irish moss is a drink in the Caribbean

• so many more

What are its benefits?

  • High in fiber

  • Lower bad cholesterol

  • Weight loss (feel fuller due to fiber)

  • Good Source of iodine

  • Probiotic

Here's how sea moss can kill you over time

Not all sea mosses are created equally. If I were to start taking sea moss I would ensure that the company has strict quality control standards for heavy metals.

You can read this in-depth article on the health benefits of seaweed consumption. Heavy metals consumption to no surprise can cause organ damage, failure, and death in high amounts. Cleveland Clinic has a good overview here.

Sea moss contains high levels of iodine, which over time if consumed in high quantities can cause gastrointestinal upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, hyperthyroidism, and goiters!

When I researched journal articles about sea moss and its "health" there were few to no results. So take this information as you will.

Tools for growth

Unplugged: "Escape to a tech-free unplugged cabin in the countryside." Currently only available in the UK currently. The cabins look beautiful and would be awesome to recharge here.

Getaway: I found one that does exactly the same thing in the United States. In several locations.

Whist: There are so many web browsers out there. Whist is the first native browser with cloud tabs, designed to be crazy fast and light. Usually tabs hog crap ton of memory on your computer but this browser uses the cloud to prevent that from happening! First of its kind.

Cool Product

Stagg EKG Pro: This electric pour-over kettle is perfect for your coffee! I have the older version and it still works great. This new one has so many settings and is beautiful. Pricey but so worth it.
