I finally finished my 14-day playbook for better sleep. I have had a whopping $0 and sales. I changed the picture and drew something myself to give the picture a better resolution. Also changed the title from "walking zombie to sleeping beauty" to 14-day playbook for better sleep.
We will see if that makes a difference. Shoutout to Dylan for helping me with the advice.
Today's newsletter is inspired by my 14-day sleep playbook. I have weighted blankets in my product recs but all this information is new and will likely make its way into the playbook in the future.
I wanted to delve a little deeper into weighted blankets and see if they are overpriced bricks or useful. Let's take a peek 👀
Action to water your health
Weighted Blankets can cost anywhere from $20-250 bucks. Can weight anywhere from 3-14kg (thats 30lbs!).
There are two kinds:
Duvet-style add weights using:
Plastic beads
Glass beads
Ball bearings
Random other heavy filling
Knitted. Are woven using dense yarn.
How do they work? The theory behind weighted blankets is deep touch pressure stimulation (DTP), that is firm, gentle pressure that is applied to the body that relaxes the nervous system.
This pressure therapy creates an overall sense of calm and well-being by releasing serotonin and dopamine (an up-lifting neurotransmitters).
In Sweden you can get a prescription for a weighted blanket from an occupational therapist! Had no clue this was thing.
Weighted blankets have found to:
Reduce certain mediation usage.
Improved sleep quality.
Greater improvement in overall sleep.
Better daytime functioning.
Provide comfort and security.
Ease stress and anxiety.
Calm the nervous system
Weighted blankets are also used for children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There is a current randomized control trial protocol ongoing so stay tuned. There are other studies that show WB are beneficial in this case as well.
Children with ADHD have:
Bedtime resistance.
Night and early morning awakening.
Co-Sleeping.
Poor quality sleep.
Poor sleep as a kid impacts every aspect of their life. So using a WB seems low risk for rewards.
Here are 9 weighted blankets that look comfortable and stylish from the strategist. The criteria they used is intense! From weight, material, filling, and cooling. Take a peep.
Tools for growth
Journey: There are so many powerpoint alternatives. This one is easy to use and a great competitor. They have a good selection of templates to choose from as well.
Service up: Ok, I haven't tried this but it's an awesome concept. Who has time nowadays to take their car to the auto shop for repairs? Usually waiting forever with poor real-time updates.
With service up you enter what's wrong with your car, get an estimate and then someone picks it up. Fixes it and returns it to you. You get updated via text. Looks kinda awesome, might give it a go.
Cool Product
Gather from Ugmonk: I am a fan of almost everything that ugmonk makes. And they just released their new modular gather desktop system. It's visually stunning, practical, and it took them over 2 years to create.
Random Musings
I started Olympic lifting again, and it feels great. I bought this super sticky tape for my thumbs (goat tape), to help with hook grip.
Started adding unsweetened greek yogurt to my shakes. I usually eat breakfast and dinner only. Great added protein, low calories, and plenty of probiotics.
I love that transition from summer to fall. It's the most beautiful time.
Is it me or is something always under construction?
You're an awesome human
